| Comment | One of the best-produced and mixed albums of the entire year, with fat-sounding and crystal-clear instruments everywhere up until loudness got ahold of it. Although Nine is the best-mastered Circus Maximus album to date, DR7 is still undesirable, and drums easily turn into dull thudding, synthesizers lose definition, and guitar frequencies are pushed against the other instruments and start distorting slightly. Given that the band was notified their last album was way too loud and promised remedial action on this one, I'm not as mad as I was before seeing this reading, but I'm still somewhat disappointed that more wasn't done. |
