| Comment | Classic Steven Wilson late 90s to late 2000s era surround mastering style. Despite the average reads around DR12, when i look at the waveforms and listen to them, it sits in kind of a strange place, somewhat like 'in absentia' (its surround version did also read similar DR value (11) as the 2017 remaster but the two sounded different, in favor of the stereo remaster). Front L-R channels are the most limited among all; rear surround channels' waveforms are mostly relaxed though sometimes getting caught by limiter a bit. When compared to the 2021 (or 2023) stereo remaster, it has pros and cons in terms of dynamics and listening enjoyment. This lossless release of 5.1 version of Deadwing on Blu-ray is the same master as in the surround version on the prior DVD release at the time. |
