| Comment | Technical Notes Mastering The 24k gold CD of Planet Drum was mastered from the original analog 15 i.p.s. stereo Dolby SR master tape. Playback was from a specially calibrated Ampex ATR-100 analog tape machine. No equalization, compression, limiting, or "enhancement" of any kind was added during the transfer. The analog to digital conversion was done through a DCS-900 by Data Conversion Systems. England, operating in the 24-bit mode, directly onto the hard disk of a Sonic Solutions computerized pre-mastering workstation. Once edited into the final form, the program was transferred through the Sony Super Bit Mapping™ Processor K-1203, which "noiseshaped" the program to 16-bits while maintaining the optimum signa!-to-noise ratio equivalent to 20-bits. This 16-bit "Super Bit Mapped™" PCM-1630 was then used at the manufacturing facility for the replication of the Au20 CD. Paul Stubblebine/Rocket Lab Tom Flye/Studio X |
