| Comment | This version has a unique mastering to other versions. It sounds better than the original CD and the 2015 hi-res version. A better tape was used in my opinion (lower gen?), more bass extension, no notched EQ like what's typically on LP production masters. If you like this album, this is the definitive digital version IMO. Comment from another user: On this CD, does "Does it Really Happen?" fade back in after the false stop that occurs in the song like it does on the LP, the original CD and the 1994 Gastwirt remaster (please avoid this one)? Because it does not do so on the 2003 Rhino remaster, as Rhino has always conformed to its strict policy of (if possible) only using each of the individual original mixdown tapes for each of the individual songs on an album. Comment from Original Poster: Yes, it does fade in, so I am unsure what source they used. But it doesn't sound like an LP master to me. Very strange, and almost no one seems to know about this release, so I decided to post it and my opinion on it (probably a bad idea). There's no clipping or distortion on this version (like the 1994 Gastwirt) and doesn't suffer from obvious compression (I couldn't hear much, if any in an AB test with the 80's Atlantic CD). I have not heard the Rhino remaster. |
