| Comment | THE HOLLIES/20 GOLDEN GREATS EMI CDP 7 46238 2 This came out in 1986 on CD, from England using the 1978 LP for the song selection. However, the tapes used were first generation stereo mixes, mastered flat! The ONLY way to hear the original stereo mixes in their good/bad glory. Comment from another user: ...And just how do you know that the original, first generation mixdown tapes for each of the songs was used for this CD? 'Cause there have been several instances where a CD is claimed one way or another to have been sourced from said kinds of tapes, but in reality, it wasn't; that's why any shape or form of "sourced from the original first-generation master tapes" claim should pretty much always be taken with a rather big and heaping shovel of salt. Also, a "flat transfer" is never really the way to go for CD masterings, as it is something that does not require any knowledge and/or skills in the field of mastering. |
