| Comment | Metallica.com Digital Download. I have the original CD from 1991 and the 2001 DVD Audio Disc. This is simply better than the original CD and the DVD Audio Disc. Has more punch and dynamics than the original CD pressing and it's not a downmix like the 2.0 Stereo version of the DVD Audio Disc. Metallica recently released all their albums in High Resolution, keep in mind, this is "NOT" a remaster like Kill 'Em All or Ride The Lightning. This is the original album mastered at 96kHz/24bit. I am assuming they used the same masters that were used for the MFiT albums (that is not confirmed). I would buy this before it's taken down because the "Remastered Box Set" will come out soon and they will take this down and replace it with the Remastered Album. EDIT - This album was released in 1991, the DR logs clearly don't match the original and 24/96 didn't show up until 1998 at the earliest so it absolutely 100% is a remaster or it would have the exact same DR log as the 1991 CD. Any new mastering is by definition, a remaster. Changing sample rate and bit depth doesn't alter DR. |
