| Comment | Bootleg compilation of many of the most essential Velvet Underground performances, apparently limited to 500 copies. Good luck finding a physical copy for a reasonable price; you'll need it. Downloads, however, are not too difficult to find. I'm not even sure if the release date I've presented is correct; the packaging I have (which may not be complete) is very sparse on information. Some of this material (most notably, the Valleydale Ballroom performance) was eventually officially released, but here, unlike on the official release, the Valleydale Ballroom performance is presented in stereo. I don't know why the official version was released in mono. The sound quality here isn't great (they're bootlegs, after all), but it's not really any worse than the sound quality of some of the official releases. There's a lot of stuff here that is essential for serious Velvets fans that has never been officially released (most notably, "Sweet Sister Ray" and "Chic Mystique"), and this is probably the most concise way to acquire it. |
